This course is intended for managers and other individuals requiring a
quick and thorough introduction to the fundamentals of geographic
information systems (GIS) and how this technology is being used. This
class does not include instruction of the technical operation of GIS
software, although demonstration will be given.
The following topics will be covered:

This course is intended for individuals with limited to no knowledge of ArcGIS
desktop products (i.e., ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo). It covers basic GIS
concepts, and the technical skills to create, edit, query, georeference, and
map spatial data using ArcMap and ArcCatalog. Specific topics covered include:
- Overview of ArcGIS
- Exploring ArcMap
- Displaying Data
- Querying Data
- Working with Tabular Data
- Joins and Relates
- Making Maps
- ArcCatalog Fundamentals

This course is intended for those individuals with a solid understanding
of ArcGIS desktop products (i.e., ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo), but
less familiarity with the concept of a geodatabase. It provides an introduction
to geodatabases and includes the following topics:
- What is a geodatabase?
- Types of geodatabases (and their applications)
- System planning and geodatabase design
- Creating geodatabases
- Loading data
- Creating and editing geodatabase features
- Introduction to advanced geodatabase topics (topologies, subtypes, domains & relationship classes)
- Geodatabase archiving and replication

This course is intended for those individuals familiar with earlier
versions of ArcView 9 but less aware of the new features in this
release. It covers new and improved functionality in the following
areas:
- cartographic display;
- map navigation;
- map display;
- working with attribute tables;
- symbolization of CAD data;
- georeferencing of CAD data;
- area calculations;
- identify tool;
- measure tool; and
- many others.
The course incorporates a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, and discussion.

a custom training class for New York state tax map technicians.
Topics covered include an overview of the geodatabase model, data
maintenance procedures, and basic and advanced parcel editing techniques.
Students will become familiar with using the ArcMap editing tools in a
variety of common parcel editing scenarios, such as performing splits and
merges, updating boundaries from deed descriptions and survey maps, and
entering subdivisions. Students will gain experience using COGO tools
and will learn how to georeference and make use of scanned survey maps
and CAD drawings. Students will learn how to create and update annotation
and how to manage parcel data in ArcCatalog.
